Module 1 – Basic structure of computer & Machine instructions and programs

Following are the contents of module 1 – Computer organization

Functional units of the computer,  Basic operational concepts of a computer.

Typical Operating steps, register, interrupt, bus structure and performance.

Basic performance equation, performance measurements, Machine instructions, and programs.

Module 2 – Input / Output organization

Following are the contents of module 2

Accessing I/O devices, Interrupts and interrupt hardware, Handling Multiple Devices.

Controlling Multiple Devices using Priority method, Controlling Multiple Devices using the Daisy chain scheme.

Direct Memory Access, Registers of DMA controller, and Centralized Bus Arbitration.

Distributed arbitration, Bus master and slaves, Synchronous bus, and asynchronous bus.

Module 3 – The Memory System

Following are the contents of module 3 the memory system of the computer organization

The maximum size of the Main Memory, byte-addressable, CPU-Main Memory Connection.

The internal organization of memory chips, SRAM, and DRAM cells.

Latency, Bandwidth, and DDR SDRAM, Memory controller, and Read-Only-Memories.

Speed, Size, and Cost,  Locality of Reference, and Cache memories.

Mapping functions determine how memory blocks are placed in the cache.

Associative, set-associative, and direct memory mapping in computer organization.

Virtual memory, address translation, and memory management in a computer organization.

Module 4 – Arithmetic

Following are the contents of module 4 Arithmetic of computer organization

Design of half adder, full adder, fast adder, and Carry Lookahead Adders, carry-save addition of summands.

Restoring and non-restoring division and Floating-point representation,

Module 5 – Basic Processing Unit

Following are the contents of module 5 of computer organization

How a processor executes instructions, Internal functional units, and how they are connected.

Hardware for generating internal control signals, the microprogramming approach, microprogram organization.
